Vietnam Accomodation

I was in Vietnam for three weeks in February. I travelled with a friend, so we always shared a room. We never paid more than 10 Dollar for a room, sometimes 8. We only got unlucky with a hotel once, in Hanoi, where it smelled like mould (but we were to tired too look for something better that day). In general the hotels (hotels arent more expensive than hostels) are quite good and clean. I guess if you travel alone, 5 Dollar per night is a realistic price.
For food, if you eat like a local it's really cheap, like in China. if you eat in the "Western Restaurants" a meal with a drink is about 4 Dollar (and the food is much better than in "Chinese Western Restaurants" )
