To enter China, you may apply for :
- 3 month single entry visa
- 3 month double entry visa
- 6 month multiple entry visa
Note : Although Macao and Hong Kong are a part of China, they have a different visa system; therefore, if you go to one of these places from China, it is like if you are exiting China. In order to re-enter China, you would need another visa or a valid visa (ie double or multiple entry).
You can apply for a Chinese visa in any Chinese consulate or embassy in your home country; or you can apply for the visa at the border of Zhongshan (Zhongshan Gang) when you are arriving from Hong Kong by taking ferry.

The Zhongshan Ferry Port is situated in Zhongshan Gang where is in the important industrial development Zone (Zhongshan Torch High-Tech Development Zone) in Zhongshan, which is operated by Zhongshan-Hong Kong Passenger Shiping Co-op. Co., Ltd. The waterway voyage between Hong Kong and Zhongshan Ferry Port is only 51 marine miles. The total size of the port is 28,286 square metres. Everyday there are 24 times voyaging between Zhongshan and Hong Kong. During the peak season, the number of voyages are up to 30 times a day. In year 2007, the number of passenger transporting from Zhongshan Ferry Port was up to 1.29 million. In December 2004, Zhongshan-Hong Kong Passenger Shiping Co-op. Co., Ltd. started the new sea route which is between Zhongshan and Hong Kong International Airport, that provides lots of conveniencies to the people from all over the world.
For passengers can easily purchase the tickets, the Zhongshan-Hong Kong Passenger Shiping Co-op. Co., Ltd. has been established more than 60 computerized sales network in all over Zhongshan, and set up 4 free shuttle – bus routes to serve the passengers.
Note: So when you arrive in Zhongshan by ferry, and you want to go to the city centre by taking the taxi, please be aware that the taxi drivers will attempt to charge twice the proper fare (and without using the metre counter). These guys are brutal and just love to take advantage of the unwary Gwai-lo (Westerner). Where the normal metered fare is about ￥27 Yuan, they will ask ￥40 Yuan or more. The taxis in town are cool though. However, try taking the No.1 bus, outside the gate is about 50 metres to the left. This will only cost ￥3 Yuan.

However, if you missed the buses to come over Zhongshan, you still can take a Zhuhai taxi from the Gongbei Customs to Xiazha checkpoint（下栅检查站）. You may find out that there are many Zhongshan taxis there, which is shown “粤T” in the car plate. Then you can bargain with the driver, about ￥200 Yuan can take you to anywhere in Zhongshan.
The most common and convenient way to come to Zhongshan from Macao is walking pass the Barrier Gate（关闸）in Macao to the Gongbei Customs（拱北口岸）in Zhuhai. After that you may go to the bus station outside the Gongbei Customs to come over Zhongshan (please refer to the link “From Zhuhai to Zhongshan” to check out more details of the buses).
